Low Domestic Airfares for This Summer
If you have not yet made your flight plans for the summer, do so today or tomorrow ...
Independence Air was a regional carrier for United Airlines out of Washington Dulles, and transformed itself into an independent low cost carrier about one year ago. Its flights have only been about half full, and financials have been dismal. Notwithstanding, Independence Air is adding west coast routes to it's east coast predominance, announcing a sale with some lower fares that must be ticketed by March 17. The best sale fares are for travel midweek.

BUT before you purchase, you absolutely must compare prices of major airlines which match or even beat Independence Air's fares--easiest done at Orbitz.com. I consistently found lower fares on nonstop flights with major airlines when I compared for June and July travel. I also think purchasing two or more months out on Independence is risky, given its precarious balance sheet.
For other low fare alternatives, check out Southwest.com and Jetblue.com.
One other key point. Once you have identified the best fare, preferably purchase your ticket from the major airline direct http://www.travelexpert.com/tools-links . This is especially important if you may want to make changes. Intermediary travel agents such as Orbitz.com charge additional service fees for making changes, which must be done by phone with wait times that can be one hour or more!!
